InterCity 125 (HST)

The star of my new TT:120 layout: an HST in the original blue and grey Inter-City 125 colours with the yellow nose.

My InterCity 125 in TT:120, and the reason the new layout exists.

The real thing

British Rail brought the HST in from 1976: a set of Mk3 coaches with a Class 43 power car at each end, built to run at 125mph. They changed long-distance travel on the Western Region and the East Coast, and in 1987 one set a world speed record for a diesel train. Plenty of them carried on working for over 40 years.

Mine

It’s in the original blue and grey with the bright yellow front and the Inter-City 125 lettering, the way they looked when they were new.

Up close

There’s a lot of detail for something this small: the BR double arrow and Inter-City 125 lettering on the side, the cab windows with their wiper, the handrails by the door and the roof grilles.

Down the line

The power car leading its Mk3 coaches along the board. Even in TT:120 it’s a long train.
